The Gorgon Project is one of the world's largest natural gas projects and the largest single resource natural gas project in Australia's history.

The Aus$40bn programme will develop the Greater Gorgon Area gas fields, located about 130 kilometres off the north-west coast of Western Australia.

It includes the construction of a 15 million tonne per annum (MTPA) Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant on Barrow Island and a domestic gas plant with the capacity to provide 300 terajoules per day to supply gas to Western Australia.

Chevron asked The Orange Partnership to review and support the verification of costs on the project, liaising with main contractor KBR (Kellogg Brown & Root) and Chevron Project Management. As part of our consultancy review we undertook an assessment of the support provided by Ernst & Young and KPMG.

An in-depth investigation of the measures currently in place to capture and verify costs was carried out and a series of recommendations to improve effectiveness and transparency was issued.

Chevron has taken on board our recommendations and is re-engineering its cost verification activities as a result.
