Overview

Scottish Water Solutions is the major delivery partner for Scottish Water. With a £200m pa budget spread across many minor capital projects, Scottish Water Solutions were looking for reassurance on the costs charged by its in-house suppliers (the shareholders of SWS) as well as its main contractors.

The Orange Partnership identified over £10m in overcharges as well as assisting suppliers in developing their own cost management systems, delivering vertical chain improvements.

Actions

The Orange Partnership carried out whole supplier audits, which involved looking across all contract costs from individual suppliers.

Working closely with the in-house cost verification team we reviewed all contracts. We created one unifying database to analayse costs from multiple projects and suppliers.

Detailed analysis enabled us to identify areas requiring further investigation, allowing us to focus on key issues of commercial concern.

Results

Our robust analysis delivered assurance over the £200m costs incurred.

With the in-house team we identified over £10m in overcharges and we assisted in the subsequent recovery.

We were particularly delighted to achieve full senior management engagement, including from the CEO, throughout the process. This enabled change to move forward swiftly and effectively.

We also assisted suppliers in improving their own accounting & commercial processes, benefiting both their own costs controls and those of our client.
